Description: Up and coming knifemaker, Jordan Buckley has tremendous attention to detail. Jordan, who is 19 years old (as of the spring of 2023) is a Washington native. His passion for bladesmithing is clear throughout all his knives. His work and aesthetic have tremendous refinement despite only having been making knives for 5 years. Perhaps it is no surprise that he aspires to become a mastersmith by 25!
A utility knife is between a chef’s knife and a paring knife, with a narrower and straighter blade. This makes it perfect for a multitude of tasks where more precise cuts are needed, such as trimming broccoli, green beans, or other smaller vegetables. Some cooks like to use it in their hand, too—almost like a large paring knife. Others like its smaller size as an alternative to the chef’s knife. Utility knives are sometimes called sandwich knives because they work well on almost everything that goes into a sandwich—from thin-skinned vegetables such as tomatoes, to meats and cheeses.
The blade is hand forged Cru Forge V carbon steel. This steel from Crucible is a vanadium-modified, high-carbon blade steel specifically designed to offer the forgeability of carbon steels such as W1, 1086 or 52100, while providing improved wear resistance in finished blades. The addition of vanadium promotes the formation of hard vanadium carbides in the micro-structure, adding to the abrasive wear resistance of the material compared to plain high carbon steels. It provides a strong, long lasting edge. The blade has a meticulous hand rubbed satin finish. Because the knife is forged from carbon steels, we recommend using camellia oil to protect the blade and natural wood handle.
The handle is stabilized maple burl, secured to the full tang using vintage Micarta pins. The contoured handle provides a comfortable grip even after hours of use. A vintage emerald green Micarta bolster finishes the handle. Like other knives, this knife should not be put in the dishwasher.
Excellent work throughout!
