Description: C. Luis Pina, is an exceptional bladesmith and specializes in kitchen knives. He apprenticed under Mastersmith David Lisch. Luis' past career as a chef provides him with an understanding of chef's knives that is rarely found elsewhere.
The 8 inch blade is forged from Pina's own mosaic damascus, combining 1080 and 15N20 carbon steels ensuring excellent edge holding and chip resistance. The high contrast pattern is extremely engaging and will have you staring at it for hours. The blade is convex ground to help facilitate food release. The spine and choil are nicely rounded for comfort. Pina's touchmark is on the left side of the blade. We recommend using camellia oil to protect the blade and natural wood handle.
The bolster is integral to the blade. It is satin finished, hiding the pattern on the sides. Integral bolsters have superior structural integrity and require a particularly talented smith.
The handle is stabilized thuya burl sculpted to provide comfortable grip -- even after hours of use. The wood selected has a nice light tone with burl eyes moving throughout the wood. Alternating black G-10 and brass spacers finish the handle. Like other knives, this knife should not be put in the dishwasher.
Excellent work throughout!
